Resources and Publications Publications

Opportunity AgFinance produces a number of informative publications throughout the year to keep donors, supporters, and staff informed about news and stories about our work.

The Makers Gallery: Hands Beyond the Harvest

Natalie Anderson

This magazine celebrates the Hands Beyond the Harvest: the creativity, skill, and enterprise of smallholder farmers beyond the farm. These farmers are also bead makers, basket weavers, painters, wood carvers, jewelry makers, textile artists, shopkeepers, tailors, and entrepreneurs. These businesses can provide an important source of additional income for farming families. Diversifying their livelihoods can help families build savings to fall back on when crops fail, weather disrupts a harvest, or unexpected expenses arise.

Refugees in Agriculture

Natalie Anderson

Refugees rebuilding their lives in Uganda are not defined by their displacement. Opportunity International's Refugee Finance program adapts AgFinance's established infrastructure, training systems, and financial tools to meet the needs of refugee farmers, giving them the means to build on existing skills, strengthen their livelihoods, and invest in future opportunities. In doing so, it supports refugee families as they work toward greater stability, resilience, and economic independence.

A Multi-Country Outcome Harvesting Analysis

Natalie Anderson and Sarah Nassanga

This outcome survey provides evidence that the FSA training model is effectively driving sustainable behavioral change among smallholder farmers. Farmers are not only gaining knowledge but also applying it in ways that improve productivity, strengthen financial management, and enhance livelihoods.

This KM Insight shares the four models for scale-up that Opportunity tested in Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, and Ghana—along with lessons learned and future plans.

AgFinance Climate and Resilience Strategy

Increasing climate disasters are eroding decades of development progress, with rural communities in low-income countries facing disproportionate impacts. This creates an urgent imperative for Opportunity to respond to clients’ rapidly evolving needs and safeguard hard-won gains in poverty reduction and financial inclusion. Opportunity is addressing this crisis head-on by ensuring rural clients can access the support and resources necessary to sustain and grow their enterprises amid mounting threats to their economic stability.
